Wonderland – 행복하고 호기심 가득한 꿈의 세계
성인이 되면서 우리는 어릴적 재미있고 호기심이 가득했던 나만의 꿈의 세계를 잊고 살아간다. 시간의 흐름에 따라 자연스럽게 잊혀져 가기도 하지만, 한편으로는 애써 우리는 이러한 꿈꿔왔던 세계를 잊으려 한다. 바쁜 현실 속 삶에서 이러한 동심의 세계를 들춰낸다는 것은 오히려 불안하고, 금기되어야 할 것 같은 생각이 들기도한다. Wonderland 작품은 이러한 우리의 마음 속 깊이 있는 숨겨둔 신비롭고 세상에서 가장 재미있는 보석 상자를 들여다 본다.
이 재미난 세계 속에는 항상 우리를 지켜주고 꿈을 이루게 해주는 요술봉이 등장한다. 익살맞은 표정들의 요술봉을 휘두르며 우리는 신비롭고 행복한, 또는 기괴한 꿈을 실현해 본다. 이는 지극히 개인적인 세계에서의 무엇이든 이루어질수 있는 오로지 나만을 위한 행복하고 신비한 일들의 실현이다.
이러한 꿈의 세계는 행복과 호기심의 다채로운 컬러들의 향연과 날카로운 칼을 이용한 스크레치, 즉 네거티브 드로잉(Negative Drawing)을 통하여 매우 섬세한 느낌으로 표현된다. 수차례의 물감을 얇게 덧칠하며 매끈하게 표현된 표면에 날카로운 칼과 바늘을 이용하여 섬세하게 긁어내어 매끈하게 표현한다. 이는 붓을 이용하여 나타낸 섬세함보다 어떠한 의미에서는 화면에 표현할수 있는 가장 섬세한 표현이기도 하다. 반면에 화면 속에는 우연적인 물성을 이용하여 마치 달콤한 아이스크림이 흘러내리는 듯한 부분도 보이는데 이 역시 재미있고 호기심 많은 세계에 대한 또다른 표현이다. 이러한 작업방식은 매우 인위적인 스크레치로 표현하는 동시에 우연성을 나타내며 상당한 작업시간을 필요로 한다.Wonderland 작품 속에는 무엇이든지 이루어주는 재미있고 신비로운 마술봉과 행복한 소녀가 등장한다. 이를 통해 여러분의 마음 속 깊이 자리잡은 동심 속 보석상자를 열어보길 기도한다.
Wonderland – The World of Dreams Filled with Happiness and Curiosity As we get older, we forget the world of dreams filled with fun and curiosity in childhood. As time passes, it could be naturally forgotten. Sometimes, however, we aim to forget this world we have dreamed of. In the reality of busy life, it might be uncertain and considered as a taboo to raise this world of childhood. The work, Wonderland looks into the most interesting and mysterious treasure box hidden deep inside our minds.
This interesting world has a magic wand that always protects us and helps us achieve our dreams. By swinging the magic wand with such humorous looks, we realize our mysterious, happy, or grotesque dreams. This is the realization of happy and mysterious things only for oneself. In this extremely-personal world, anything could happen. This world of dreams is represented as very delicate senses with the feast of varied colors of happiness and curiosity, and scratches using a sharp knife, which is the negative drawing. The smooth surface created by thinly recoating paints numerous times, was delicately scratched with a sharp knife and needle. This could be the most delicate representation that could be shown on the canvas, rather than the delicateness expressed by using a brush. On the other hand, the canvas also shows the part looking as the sweet ice cream is flowing down, by using the accidental property.
This is also another expression of the fun and curious world. This work method represents the contingency with such artificial scratches, which requires relatively- long working hours.
The work, Wonderland has a happy girl and an interesting and mysterious magic wand that could achieve anything. I hope that this work could open the treasure box deep inside your mind.
